Dylan started sailing competitively aged 13 and quickly got the bug, progressing through the 405 class – winning various events, including national titles – and onto the 29er Youth class by the time he was 15. Within a few months he was selected for the RYA National Squad. In 2006 he enjoyed international success, finishing 2nd Overall and 1st Youth in the 29er World Championships.
Alain started sailing aged 10, jumping into any dinghy or boat he could find. Concentrating on Toppers, he progressed within the class and by the time he was 16 he had won national events and enjoy high ranking finishes in the world championships. He moved onto the 29er Youth class and in the following 3 years enjoyed 1st place at national and international level, including winning the National Championship, Eurocup and World Championships in 2004.
Dylan and Alain teamed up at the end of 2006 and were subsequently selected for the Skandia Team GBR Olympic Transitional Squad. The leap in performance provided a steep learning curve but their skill and commitment served them in good stead and at the end of the 2007 season they were selected for the Skandia Team GBR Olympic Development Squad. Their goals remain those of selection for the 2012 Olympic Games and then success in the waters off Weymouth and Portland. Read their blog here (opens in new window).
